Dr. Elemer Veres BDS, B.Sc. Mech. Engineering, B Phil. Environmental Science
Born 1945 in wartorn Hungary. In 1956 family flees to West after Revolution is crushed by Russian Communist Forces. After 6 months in refugee camps in Austria and Switzerland arrives in South Africa, age 11 years.
Awarded scholarship, graduates as mechanical engineer in 1968. While working at a research facility of a mining conglomerate, develops interest in pollution control. 1975 gains Honours degree in environmental science. |

Enters public service, specializing in air pollution and noise control. Disillusioned by bureaucracy and the formal sector, studies dentistry and graduates from Wits Dendal School in 1982. Enters private practice, holds part-time post as lecturer / research fellow at Alma Mater. At age 44 starts snoring. Conducts research and publish "Clinical trial of an oral vestibular shield for the control of snoring" in 1992. Voted Lecturer of the year in 1993. Resigns university post to concentrate on private practice and the treatment of snoring in collaboration with sleep disorder clinics. In 1993 appointed consultant to the research & development department of the International Headache Clinic (South African Branch). Elemer and wife, Alma of 24 years have no children but are Godparents to 8 adorable boys and girls around the globe. They have 5 cats (3 strays) and a hand-me-down dog call Scruffy. Interest: travelling, international and social affairs, music and sports (except boxing). Hobbies: Carpentry and house renovation.
